In 2024, the Borscht Belt Historical Marker Project dedicated five historic markers and hosted five cultural programs to coincide with our marker dedications.
We now have nine historic markers dedicated across the landscape that once comprised the Borscht Belt region. Keep an eye out for our five dedications anticipated during summer and fall 2025.
Our lively dedication ceremonies include guest speakers who are hotel and bungalow colony descendants, town officials, local representatives and individuals who have a connection with the Borscht Belt.
Each dedication ceremony is complimented by a curated public program which celebrates the famed era through film screenings, arts and literary expos, musical performances, DJ sets, cocktail hours, and more! Our estimated trail completion is fall 2026.
We hope you'll join us to celebrate the history of the Borscht Belt. Sign up for our mailing list to stay in touch!

Day & Night: Return to the Borscht Belt presents the work of photographers Marisa Scheinfeld & Isaac Jeffreys alongside rare archival material from the famed era, which has been culled from various private collections. The juxtaposition of Scheinfeld's naturally lit style versus Jeffreys theatrical, staged approach offers a manifold celebration of the Borscht Belt in its most contemporary state.
This exhibit was made possible with funding from a Sullivan County Arts & Heritage Grant, funded by the Sullivan County Legislature and administered by Delaware Valley Arts Alliance. Additional partners include the Jewish American Society for Historic Preservation, Sullivan Catskills Visitors Association, the Sullivan County Historical Society, the Town of Fallsburg, and Visit Mountain Dale.
